Sindrabong is the remotest village along Rimbi River and lies at the doorstep of the Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve (KBR). To reach this village one has to trek 8 km (5 hours walk) uphill from Nambu in West Sikkim. The present population is 400 with 52 household. Since time immemorial nomadic yak herding and trade in medicinal and aromatic plants used to be the main source of livelihood for the villagers. Now after the ban in grazing, Yambong Singalila provides them with an alternative livelihood. After opening of Yambong Singalila, the ex-herders have themselves engaged into trekking tourism business where they earn the living. The local communities formed Kidu Samaj way back in 1972 without any wide-ranging vision, providing social service during death and village function was all that the society did till 2004. Reforming the Society with broader vision led to the formation of Sindrabong Khangchendzonga Eco-friendly Society (SKES) in 2005 and the society finally got registered with the Law Department, Govt. of Sikkim on 7th September 2005. Although SKES was registered in 2005, it has it long history of the past 3 decades.
